Book Description
Everyone knows a couple like Jack and Grace. He has looks and wealth, she has charm and elegance. You might not want to like them, but you do.
You’d like to get to know Grace better.
But it’s difficult, because you realise Jack and Grace are never apart.
Some might call this true love. Others might ask why Grace never answers the phone. Or how she can never meet for coffee, even though she doesn’t work. How she can cook such elaborate meals but remain so slim. And why there are bars on one of the bedroom windows.
Sometimes, the perfect marriage is the perfect lie.
"... the perfect house, the perfect husband, the perfect life."
This book brought to my mind an image of a big, juicy, perfectly shaped, tempting apple that once bitten reveals only decomposition and decay at its core.
Jack and Grace seem to have it all. They are a good-looking, perfect couple, living a perfect life in a perfect house. Grace knows how to prepare perfect dishes and charming Jack, never losing a case, is a perfect lawyer. But no one is perfect, no? So how is it that everything surrounding this couple's life looks to be just perfect? All their friends just stare in awe at them.
"... a wolf in sheep's clothing?"
But the reader soon discovers that nothing could be farther from the truth. Behind the luxurious house's closed doors there is a living hell and unimaginable terror. The story alternates smoothly between the not too distant past and the present.
I could feel the tension building up as soon as I started reading the first chapter. I knew that something bad was soon going to happen. All through the book I felt as though someone was squeezing my throat, taking my breath away. I found myself on tenterhooks and biting my nails, fearing that something might happen to turn a bad situation worse. I could almost feel the same fear, hope and anguish felt by Grace but at some times I felt angry at her and wanted to slap her hard on the face so that she gets up and do something to stop what's happening. I hated Jack with all my heart and wished I could kill him with my own hands.
I won't say more not to spoil the story but be prepared to go on a scary, heart-pumping journey into the lives of Jack and Grace. Warning: Most probably you will want to end the book in just one sitting, so I suggest you clean your house, take out the dog, feed the kids or put them to bed and cuddle your other half BEFORE you lose yourself into this story. Believe me, you won't be able to stop reading.
