Woohoo!! Today I'm so thrilled to be one of two blogs hosting the next stop in the blog tour of the fab Double Jeopardy, a DI Hero Nelson thriller by Mel Comley.

The blurb:

Successful entrepreneur, Ross Spalding, has everything to live for; a thriving business, a stunning new home, and a high society wedding to his beautiful fiancée to look forward to in the coming months. That is, until his life comes to an abrupt, gruesome end.

DI Hero Nelson and his team need to dig deep to find the reasons behind someone wanting Ross Spalding dead. As more people connected to Ross also die, some in suspicious circumstances, the suspect list grows beyond all expectations, until a major clue presents itself and spins the investigation off in a totally new direction.

However, Hero’s personal life is also dealt a major blow when his parents are faced with a life or death situation. He is forced to put his personal problems aside when the murderers are revealed and Hero is faced with a tight deadline in which to apprehend them.

Alongside her famous Justice series, featuring the ever so feisty Lorne Warner, bestselling author Mel Comley is gradually building up her Hero series as well. Double Jeopardy is the latest (and in my opinion the best to date) heart-pounding instalment featuring DI Hero Nelson and his partner Julie Shaw.

The author wastes no time and goes straight for the jugular, kicking off the book with a brutal murder. Ross Spalding, a successful wealthy businessman is abducted by unknown persons from his office building one night and taken to a desolate field where he's murdered. His body is found by a farmer the following morning. Who wanted to get rid of this man so much? And why?

Hero and Julie Shaw race to the scene to start their investigation, starting with questioning the farmer and the dead man's colleagues. Some of Ross's workmates look suspicious and from the interviews it transpires that he was about to take some important decisions regarding the company's future. Was his murder connected to his work? Or was the reason much more personal?

When Hero finally thinks he's making some headway in the case, events take an unexpected turn forcing him back to the drawing board starting anew. Will he ever find out who killed Ross? And, if this baffling case were not enough for Hero, his family is struck by a terrible tragedy, putting on hold both his personal and professional lives. How will it all end?

As per the author's previous books, I was instantly hooked from the very beginning and ended up devouring the whole book in a few hours. One of the things I loved most in this book is that without distracting the reader from the main case, the author dedicates a few chapters to Hero's personal life, giving readers, especially those new to this series, a chance to meet all members of his family. The author balances the story between the fast-paced case and Hero's more relaxed personal life, which sadly doesn't stay relaxed for long. The tragedy hitting his family just adds more tension to the already ongoing suspense and drama taking place in this book. By the end I was left an emotional wreck, wincing, biting my knuckles and trying hard to hold back my tears.

'Double Jeopardy' does not only have a stunning cover. Inside, it's a brilliantly woven, well-written plot brimful of engaging characters, realistic dialogue, suspense, drama, murders, fast-paced action and some very emotional moments. It is a fantastic, thrilling read and I highly recommend it.

With thanks to the author for an ARC of this book which I voluntarily accepted to read and review.
