When nine-year-old best friends Charlie and Amy disappear, two families are plunged into a living nightmare. A text message confirms the unthinkable; that the girls are the victims of a terrifying kidnapping.
And when a second text message pits the two families against each other for the life of their children, the clock starts ticking for D.I. Kim Stone and the squad.
Seemingly outwitted at every turn, as they uncover a trail of bodies, Stone realises that these ruthless killers might be the most deadly she has ever faced. And that their chances of bringing the girls home alive, are getting smaller by the hour…
Untangling a dark web of secrets from the families’ past might hold the key to solving this case. But can Kim stay alive long enough to do so? Or will someone’s child pay the ultimate price?
This book is truly an Adrenaline shot!
I can't express in words the excitement I feel whenever a new Kim Stone book is about to be released and added to the brilliant series by Angela Marsons. I'm like a small child again earnestly waiting to open my Christmas presents and wondering what I'll find inside. The attractive, creepy cover and title of this book already give a hint to its contents.
"How much do you love your daughter? Measure it in pounds."
DI Kim Stone is alerted to the kidnapping of two young girls. The case has many similarities to another one a year before in which only one of two girls was released and saved. That case was never solved. Are the same kidnappers back at it or is this the deed of copycat criminals?
What's singular and interesting in this kidnapping is that the distraught parents find themselves competitors in a sick, evil game. Which couple will win their daughter back and which won't?
Kim knows that the girls are in mortal danger and she and her team find themselves on a desperate race against time to try and save them from the grasp of these sick individuals. Where are the girls? How will they track them down? Will they make it on time?
I just LOVE Kim Stone. This character is undoubtedly one of my most favourite fictional characters ever. As the author says: "Whilst Kim might not be the warmest of characters, she shows passion and drive and a real hunger for justice."
Angela Marsons never disappoints and once again with 'Lost Girls' she has proved her great talent at writing cracking, edge-of-your-seat thrillers. She has the knack to draw the reader into the story right from the very beginning. As in her other books, her brilliant writing kept me pinned to my kindle.
Great realistic characters, believable dialogue and short chapters, many of which ending in cliffhangers kept my interest throughout. I'm sure that in the last part of the book, as I was reading, the Adrenaline levels in my bloodstream just soared. It was as if I was there with the rest of the team in the midst of all the action. I desperately wanted to know what will happen next and if these two young girls will ever see their parents again.
If you're in for a boost of excitement, and a nail-biting thriller, I highly recommend you this book. Well Done Angela! I can't wait to meet Kim Stone again.
With thanks to Bookouture publishers and NetGalley for approving my request to read and review this book.
About the Author
Angela Marsons is the author of Amazon #1 Bestseller SILENT SCREAM.
She lives in the Black Country with her partner, their bouncy Labrador and a swearing parrot.
She first discovered her love of writing at Junior School when actual lessons came second to watching other people and quietly making up her own stories about them. Her report card invariably read "Angela would do well if she minded her own business as well as she minds other people's".
After years of writing relationship based stories (My Name Is and The Middle Child) Angela turned to Crime, fictionally speaking of course, and developed a character that refused to go away.
