Jenny, Sarah, Deborah, Claire and Sam. It is around these characters that author Emma L. Clapperton weaves her latest paranormal novel. As with ‘Beyond Evidence’ by the same author, ‘Henderson Manor’ features psychic Patrick McLaughlin and his wife Jodie and is jam-packed with emotions such as jealousy, lust, hatred and love as well as murder and mystery.
Sam Leonard is a very handsome and successful young actor. He lives with his best friend Jenny Lawson. Having seen Sam going through some bitter experiences in his relationship and consequent separation from his former girlfriend Sarah, Jenny feels quite protective of her friend and she does not want him to suffer anymore. This overprotection however creates problems for Sam when he interacts with other females.
Deborah Bell is obsessed with Sam Leonard. She has been following his acting career on television and theatres for a long time. She always knows what his next project would be and where he will perform next and always makes sure to be present wherever he is. One night she approaches him in a bar. Sam finds her quite pretty and interesting and after a few drinks they end up at his flat. Soon they start a relationship (always with Jenny close by). Sam feels complete again and cannot be happier. What could go wrong ?
A young woman living alone is found dead at her house. DS Preston and DC Lang are called in to investigate. With nothing suspicious, her death is considered accidental. But was that really the case?
Patrick and Jodie McLaughlin’s life couldn’t be better. With a baby on the way they have found a new house at an incredible price. Its last owner had died suddenly without leaving a will. The house is in fact a huge old manor with a long history. It is complete with a family burial place at the back where members of the Henderson family who have owned the house for many generations are buried.
As the McLaughlins start to settle in their new home, Patrick begins to see visions and hear voices. The dead seem to want something from him, but he does not understand what. Henderson Manor will soon become the place where several people’s lives and deaths meet and clash.
In the end, I highly recommend this book as although I am not such a big fan of paranormal novels, I really loved it and practically devoured it right up to its breath taking finale. Ms. Clapperton Well Done !!
