An hour after accepting a lift home from work, Sarah Abel is found murdered in her flat. With very few clues at the scene, it’s up to DI Kayli Bright and her team to decide if this is a case of a bungled burglary or if Sarah is part of someone else's hidden agenda. While sifting through the list of suspects, Kayli worries her personal turmoil threatens to derail the investigation.
With her stress levels at their highest and overwhelmed by her concern for her missing fiancé, Kayli makes a decision that shocks her team and her family.
A decision that not only jeopardises her job but also puts her own life in mortal danger.
Having read and enjoyed the first two instalments in the DI Kayli Bright series by Mel Comley, I couldn't wait to get my hands on the third and last one in the trilogy - Hidden Agenda, especially after the major cliffhanger we've been left with at the end of book 2 - Killer on the Run.
As in the first two, this book sees Kayli Bright and her partner Dave on the hunt for a vicious killer. A young woman is brutally murdered in her home, barely an hour after she had arrived from work. Who has committed this senseless, horrible deed? Why was the woman murdered? Kayli finds she needs to answer a lot more questions in order to identify and catch the killer, especially with numerous suspects that were close to the victim.
On the personal front, Kayli takes a sudden decision to tackle a major issue that has been affecting her life and work. She does something I wasn't really expecting. I can't say what, not to spoil the story for anyone. I'll only say that in this book Kayli seriously puts her life on the line showing to be much more ballsy than all her male counterparts put together.
Well, I think of the three books in the trilogy, this is my favourite. It is quite different from any of the books the author has written to date and so very exciting. You'll understand what I mean once you've read it. Being a trilogy, I recommend readers to go through the books in the correct order.
In this book, the author takes us on an action-packed, emotional, heart-pounding journey that has nothing to do with any of the others she's taken us on so far, showing that there is really no limit to her fertile imagination. She vividly describes scenes that made me imagine I was really there amidst the action.
'Hidden Agenda' is a cracking thriller that had me hooked from the terrifying prologue till the very end, through twists and turns and unwavering tension. As I was reading, I felt torn between wanting to reach the ending to find out how the story ends and not wanting the book (and the trilogy) to end as I was enjoying it so much. But eventually I ended up devouring the whole book in a couple of hours.
Well done to the author for another great heart-in-mouth book and I thank her for an ARC which I voluntarily accepted to read and review. Highly recommended!
