Nothing is what it seems ...
Karl and Marte Vollan live in an isolated farmhouse in rural Norway.
It seems like paradise until suddenly it becomes a living nightmare.
During the dead of winter Karl tries to drive heavily pregnant Marte to hospital. But before he can get his car out of the thick snow and off their land they are attacked by a hooded figure. The stranger is holding a hatchet ... and it is covered in dark blood.
Karl desperately tries to get them both away, but their attacker overpowers them. He escorts them back to their home, locks the doors and cuts the phone lines.
Suddenly Karl realises knows who he is.
If you want to read a fast, scary, edge-of-your-seat book...then this is for you, but beware: you need a strong heart and stomach! This is a short, terrifying Scandinavian story about a couple kept prisoners in their own home.
Leaving their isolated cabin and rushing to hospital in darkness and heavy snowfall, Karl and his heavily pregnant wife Marte, are suddenly stopped by a mysterious individual wielding a blooded hatchet. He disables their car and forces them back to their home where he cuts off all their means of communication. The couple is terrified. What does this man want? Why did he target them? What was he doing wandering in the middle of nowhere? Who's blood is on the hatchet? And what about the baby now?
Not wanting to give any spoilers, I'll only say that this nail-biting book kept my attention piqued at all times and I devoured it in just a few minutes as apart from being short, I desperately wanted to know how everything will end. Chapter after chapter, things in the cabin turn from bad to worse... and blood will be spilt. This is the author's first novel and I will certainly be looking for more of his books.
With thanks to Endeavour Press and Netgalley for approving my request to read this book in exchange of an honest review.
