Meet Joseph Calleja
Where are you from?
I’m from Malta, a tiny, sunny island in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea.
What is your blog Title/ link?
My blog is named ‘Relax and Read Book Reviews’
I also have a Facebook page dedicated to book reviews, recommendations, offers and more and it’s at http://facebook.com/relaxandreadreviews
My twitter account: https://twitter.com/callejajos
Why did you choose to start blogging?
I’ve been reading back to back books for quite a number of years now. At some point I realised that I needed to keep a record of the books I read. My memory is not that of an elephant and with the passing of time I feared that I would forget what books I read and their plots. I also began to feel the need to share with others my thoughts on the books I read. So about 3 years ago, I opened an account on Amazon and discovered Goodreads and began to paste my reviews there. When I had accumulated quite a substantial number of reviews I felt the need to bring all my reviews together on my own platform in an organised system. So, I decided to take the plunge and began reading online articles that teach how to start a website and on blogging.
I’m very new to blogging, having started only last February, that is 8 months ago, so my blogging experience is still in its early stages and I have so much more to learn.
What is/are your favourite book(s)?
This is a difficult question as there are so many books I can mention. When I started reading I used to read Fantasy. Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit are my all-time favourites in that genre. I’ve now left this genre and I generally read crime fiction, mysteries and psychological thrillers. I also LOVE historical fiction. Some of the books that I really, really enjoyed reading recently are A Place of Execution by Val McDermid, Into the Darkest Corner by Elizabeth Haynes and Sewing the Shadows Together by Alison Baillie. But as I said, there are so many others that I equally enjoyed.
Who is/are your favourite Author(s)?
With so many brilliant authors out there awarding readers with so many fantastic books, it’s very, very difficult to decide who’s my most favourite, but for the sake of naming a few to answer your question, I can mention Val McDermid, Chris Carter, Peter James and Linwood Barclay.
What is your advice for fellow bloggers?
Well, since I’m relatively new to blogging, and there are so many other fabulous, experienced bloggers, I’m really not in a position to give advices. On the other hand, I need to watch closely these fellow brilliant bloggers and learn from them as much as I can.
Is there anything you would like to add about yourself or your blog?
My blog is more of a book review library where I regularly add to my book reviews. I don’t actually use my blog to post every tiny bit of literary news I hear as I do not have much time for that sort of blogging. For that I prefer to use my Facebook page. I find it far easier to share news on offers and promotions there. I mostly read and review crime fiction, psychological thrillers, legal thrillers and historical fiction. I do not restrict my reading to just new books. I love to read and review books that have been published years ago as well. Why not? I welcome anyone wanting to contact me via the contact form on my blog. If you’re an author or a fellow reader or blogger, I would love to hear from you.
